£2000
Ivars Jansons was born in Latvia in 1939
and when he had completed his secondary education, he studied architecture. To
express himself artistically he would often paint small watercolour studies.
Ivars Jansons became a professional painter in 1964 and his first solo
exhibition in 1967 was held at Green Glades Gallery in Melbourne, one of many
successful exhibitions in which his work sold out within an hour of opening. He
travelled extensively and painted locally and interstate. In 1969 he travelled
to New Zealand and painted there extensively too. In 1972 Ivars travelled
overseas to expand his knowledge of art. At the St Ives School of Painting,
Leonard Fuller was Ivars Jansons’ tutor and he became interested in portraiture
and figure work as a result of those studies.
However the beauty of the rugged Cornish countryside was impossible to ignore
and prompted Ivars Jansons to paint his surroundings. Ivars Jansons and his
family returned to Australia after seventeen months abroad studying and painting
and visiting Europe’s finest galleries.
Since 1988 when Ivars Jansons launched his first book, “Ivars Jansons Oils and
Watercolors”, he has held many successful exhibitions and received many
prestigious awards and has established himself as a very collectable and
prestigious artist. Ivars work has also been featured in many publications.
